Rock bar

What is also nice IMHO, is that you can take your kid anywhere. I am sure that taking your child to bars and other places where adults are hanging out is very positive for healthy development. Anyway, once I took her to a local pub and she met people from 3 countries, learned how magnets are made, manufacturing process of plastic bags, learned some new words to take to school and had a great time.

Last night we went to rock bar with really cool Philipino Band. Some Santana, oldies and other cool songs. One of the owners asked Polina if she sings, and 10 minutes later she was on stage singing Cabaret. I also accidently had my harmonica with me and jamed with the band. Then we sat with the band and Polina was very happy to be around and praized by adults.

Market

Polina and I were in East part of the city and visited one of market places. WOW. Being from Central Asia it didn't shock me, but defenitely impressed. Live chicken, sea food, spices and so on. Smell pallete is really rich. Smell of chicken shit, geese clucking, breathing cut off fish heads and so on. A real shopping treat.

Chicken

Geese

School search

School search is still going.

I did research about international sxhools in Shenzhen online and had a list of 5 of them. Shekou International school. Principal didn't spend much time and went directly to payment discussion. Tuition is over 30 000 cad per year. It was a deal braker for me, so we parted on this note. Education is American standart and Chinese is only 5 classes a week. I didn't like that. Pay rediculous amount of money for lousy education model is too much. Same was true for all International Schools. I kinda liked qsi school. They had more Chinese classes, and some additional subjects.

I made a trip to local public school a couple of days ago and Luckily for me principal accepted her in grade 1. Once her Chinese is up to speed, she can pass test to higher grade. Tons of paper work, plus I need to find a person to be a "Guardian" for her because I don't have a valid work Visa.

To be continued...

Brushing Polina's hair

My heart is bleeding every time I brush Polina's hair. I always hurt her and she cries , that's why hate brushing her. I found a solution. I take her across the street. And they wash her hair, massage her head, then brush it for 45 minutes (3 of them) and I read a book. Everything is under 10$ CAD.

We saw a real communist today

Polina and I were exploring city by bus. Took any bus until route end, then another and so on. On one of these busses we met an elderly Chinese that studied English in Hong Kong 30 years ago. He is an honorary member of communist party and was a soldier in Japanese war. Quite a character. Told us a lit about Siao Ping that led their country to Victory.

And, as a protest to Japan, I suppose, they make sushis like this...yes, it's a sausage.

Guanzhou and See food Restaurant

We went to Guanzhou yesterday. 25$ for both of us and 2 hours to get there. Guanzhou is very old city with crazy architecture and and homeland of all fake suits, watches, bags etc. Below is a street called Beijing Lu. Huge street with malls, restaurants and so on and drying underwear. I came into a mall and a half of stores were closed with iron curtains, but tons of people outside. A few moments later iron curtain goes up and you are invited to a world of all fake things. I got Armani suit for 70$

They trimmed it right there
Manual Elevator is in another place, I suppose
Crocodiles for your enjoyment
or, maybe turtles?

Swimming bugs? It's 10$ for half a kilo
Seeeea foood
And more
Snakes, anyone?
Caught by surprise...
We had a crocodile. Lot's of people I met described their new experience with new meat as chicken-like. Well this meat is like a tough frog meat and a duck.

The city itself is really strange. Humidity is higher than on the coast. City didn't determine what style it wants to be. NY style building, greek style, european, old and new Chinese. I definitely like Shenzhen better, but it was a great trip.

Big scale

All events in China are Huge. doesn't matter what they sell. Phones, shoes, hair product.
Below are about 50 hairdresses that demonstrate hair product to bypassers.

Same is true to all sales events. When there is a sale, you dive into a crowd like in the swimming pool. Really unexplainable exciting feeling.

Entrepreneurial spirit

... Can be found everywhere. How to get home from bus station? Use services of electric bike owners.

I used that service. Looked suicidal outside, but worked out well. Just a dollar and I am in chinese school, but it's another topic.
